22momme Fabric

Like any other fabric, thread count is an important factor in quality. For silk, instead of thread count quality and "thickness" is measured by weight - referred to as "momme". 16momme or lower is typically only used for delicate and gently used items like decorative scarves. 19momme can be used for bedding however this weight of fabric wears out faster and is more difficult to wash and care for without damage. 22momme has approximately 20% more silk per square inch than 19momme and is considered the Gold Standard for pillowcases, with a durable silk weight that helps maintain its signature lustre.

100% Mulberry Silk

Mulberry silk is spun by the silkworm Bombyx mori which has been fed exclusively leaves from the Mulberry tree. The silk produced has a specific prism structure to the fiber and does not contain any unpleasant odors that can come from the silkworm grazing on different vegetation. Mulberry silk is considered the highest quality for textile bedding and garment use. Make sure that any silk bedding you purchase is labeled at 100% Mulberry Silk as some manufacturers blend Mulberry silk with other types of cheaper silk.

WASHING

-Machine wash in cold water on gentle cycle or hand wash cold

-Preferable to use a delicates bag if machine washing

-Do not wash with rough fabrics (jeans, velcro, buttons, towels etc.) as these fabrics can cause friction damage to the silk

-Do not use bleach of ANY kind, bleach can strip the silk of the amino acids and fibroins that is part of it's anti-aging, anti-frizz and non-stripping properties

-Gentle, PH balanced and non-fragranced detergent is best. Do not use stripping dish soap or shampoos as this can damage the silk fibers

DRYING:

-Laying flat or hanging on a smooth rod (shower curtain rod, please check for sharp angles that may rip the fabric) is preferred

-If machine drying please use the lowest temperature setting and do not over dry. Heat is one of the biggest factors in the loss of amino acids and proteins present in silk

IRONING:

-Ironing is not recommended, most times the silk will smooth out any wrinkles from washing or packaging after the first few days of use on a pillow

-If you must iron, use the lowest possible setting, do not use steam, and do not over iron. As stated above, heat is one of the biggest factors in the loss of amino acids and proteins present in silk
